“I was born in Port Alberni, a mill town on Vancouver Island, British Columbia but spent the bulk of my childhood in Victoria, B.C. and on the opposite coast, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. At around twelve I decided I wanted to be a writer. I started out writing sci-fi epics then went on to swords and sorcery tales and then, during the summer holiday when I was fourteen, started on a humorous story about a boy addicted to video games. It turned out to be quite a long story, really a short novel, and I rewrote it the next summer. We had a family friend who knew Roald Dahl – one of my favourite authors – and this friend offered to show Dahl my story. I was paralysed with excitement. I never heard back from Roald Dahl directly, but he read my story, and liked it enough to pass on to his own literary agent. I got a letter from them, saying they wanted to take me on, and try to sell my story. And they did.Taken from author website

Evan Angler is safe, for now. He lives without the Mark, evading DOME and writing in the shadows of Beacon. But if anyone asks, you know nothing about him. Don’t make eye contact if you see him. Don’t call his name out loud. He’s in enough trouble already. And so are you, if you listen to his books. (Author website)
“The Chance is a heartwarming story about childhood friends, broken lives, and a long ago promise that just might offer the hope of love for today. In The Chance, Karen delves deeply into a theme that resonates with us all: It’s never too late for those willing to take a chance.
Years ago, the day before Ellie moved from Georgia to California, she and her best friend Nolan sat beneath the Spanish moss of an ancient oak tree where they wrote letters to each other, and sealed them in a rusty old metal box. The plan was to return eleven years later and read them. But now, as that date arrives, much has changed. Ellie, bereft of the faith she grew up with, is a single mom living in a tired apartment trying to make ends meet. Sometimes she watches television to catch a glimpse of her old friend —Nolan, now an NBA star, whose terrible personal tragedies fueled his faith and athletic drive in equal measure. But Nolan also suffers from a transcendent loneliness that nothing has ever eased.
In their separate lives, as Ellie and Nolan move toward the possibility of a reunion at the oak tree, Kingsbury weaves a tale of heart-wrenching loss, the power of faith, and the wounds that only love can heal.” — Author’s website

Little does she know what a wondrous and heart-wrenching journey she is beginning.

MEI Secondary Library is happy to welcome a new author to our shelves: Sibella Giorello.
“In an exceptionally skillful debut, Sibella Giorello brings to life forensic geologist Raleigh Harmon, a heroine who is surefooted in grisly crime scenes but feeling her way along the intertwining paths of life, love, and faith. Readers will follow her eagerly through this adventure and hope for more to come.”
“Sibella Giorello writes from the heart without leaving her head behind—which is what makes her writing so strong, so memorable. She’s gutsy, funny, and meticulous, with an eye for the real story, the profound connections.”
“This novel was such a great pleasure to read. It’s riveting, intelligent, and peopled beautifully with characters I will never forget. Giorello presents a quiet, steady (perhaps even iron-clad!) depiction of people of faith. Beautifully written and a pleasure to read.”
